Sales data was slipping through the cracks

In the early days, the store lacked the ability to multitask from one screen, especially during a sale, says co-founder and owner Jeremiah Flores.

“Back in the day, if you were scanning, if you came into the store to buy a bottle, I couldn’t pivot off of a screen to go into another sale without losing all that,” he says.

Lightspeed changed that. Now, “everything is kind of preserved. It’s almost internal to Lightspeed. You’re allowed to bounce back and forth. That was super helpful.”

Complexity may indicate a quality wine, but it’s not ideal when it comes to running a business. That’s why they made the move to Lightspeed Payments—so all their operations were under one roof.

“We didn’t realize how awesome it would be to have something integrated like this,” Jeremiah says.

Top-shelf payments features make selling easier

Jeremiah and his team use Lightspeed Payments tools like card on file and payment requests to simplify repeat purchases, save time and reduce errors.

For a business with so many loyal customers, they were missing a way to store customer card information without jumping through hoops like writing out payment information for remote orders over the phone with every purchase.

With card on file, they can securely and quickly store credit card information—and have saved over 75 hours in manual entry and phone calls since they started using the feature. Plus, they get the peace of mind that comes with encrypted storage.

“You transcribe it one time. You don’t need to waste phone time. You don’t have to worry about keying the wrong number in because it’ll automatically tell you you’re off a digit or the expiration is wrong. That has made things so much easier,” Jeremiah says.

Jeremiah also sends payment requests to customers at least once a week, making it much easier to track remote payments.

Raising a glass to faster refunds

For Jeremiah and his staff, it’s been game-changing “not having to pick up the phone and call some bank in San Francisco or New York to issue a refund.”

The entire process takes one click, a far cry from their last provider.

Despite having fewer chargebacks and refunds than the average business, Jeremiah estimates that over the course of a year, they’ve saved an hour a week on refunds alone.

And he points out that “you can’t quantify the customer satisfaction” at checkout when money is credited back in an instant.

“It’s so easy to say, ‘look, I canceled it. I’ll even send you a refund. I’m going to reprocess it.’ And then the new total comes up on the terminal.”

Everything is so transparent with Lightspeed. You can go in and see all the payments, you can see a refund. In the old days, you just hoped everything went through and then you batched at the end of the night.
