As a growing business, Forward Furniture needed solutions that would grow with them.
Like many entrepreneurs, Tyson’s inspiration to start his own business came from a personal experience. While moving into his first place, he faced the reality of traditional furniture shopping: exorbitant prices and long, agonizing wait times. Seeing demand for more affordable, accessible pieces, Tyson began flipping furniture in his free time. While the sales were there, the business model wasn’t sustainable. He lacked consistent stock, and flipping used furniture meant hours of manual cleaning and repairs.
Driven to provide a better alternative, Tyson partnered with his own suppliers to launch Forward Furniture. Headquartered in Kelowna, British Columbia, the brand has since expanded to include franchise locations and an ecommerce presence. Now, customers far and wide rely on them for affordable furniture including couches, chairs and cabinet beds like the popular Olivia model.

Initially, Forward Furniture operated on manual spreadsheets. This would be simple enough for Tyson’s small business—or so he thought. Without a proper system, they started experiencing stockouts, longer fulfillment times and difficulty monitoring financials. They would sometimes lose track of what was ordered or accidentally mark items down too heavily, eating into their margins. It quickly became clear they needed to find a more tech-forward solution.
Forward Furniture attempted to weather the storm with inventory management software, but this alone didn’t solve their problems. Once they opened more locations and started transferring stock between stores, it caused discrepancies in their financial data. This proved it was time to implement something more robust and purpose-made for multi-location businesses.
The goal was to be able to operate all our locations on Lightspeed. Once I gave it a try, it worked really, really well.
