Senior Product Designer II POS Hospitality (all genders)

Hi there! Thanks for stopping by 👋

Are you the kind of designer who notices the tablet on the bar, the screens in the kitchen, and the rhythm of a server clearing a table? Do you wonder how the software could make all of it feel effortless? Do you thrive in environments where craft, systems thinking, and real customer empathy come together? If so, you might be in the right place!

Lightspeed is looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our POS (Point of Sale) squad in our Hospitality design team, based in Berlin. Our POS is the operational heart of hospitality businesses across Europe.

Our squad's mission is to make every shift smoother for the people working the floor.

We design the native iOS experience that powers ordering, payments, table management and the dozens of micro-decisions that happen every minute of a busy service. In this role, you'll lead the most complex and most time-sensitive design work on the squad, and you'll make the designer working alongside you better through the quality of your thinking and your critique.

The ideal candidate has a proven track record of owning end-to-end design for complex native mobile experiences (especially iOS), driving consensus when the room disagrees, and shipping work that holds up under real operational pressure.

What you'll be doing

  • Problem Solving: Lead the most complex and most time-sensitive design initiatives on the POS squad, end-to-end and with minimal supervision. Turn highly ambiguous operational problems into specific, usable product features. Facilitate design reviews and working sessions that push the team forward, not just document alignment. Explore and integrate emerging tools (including AI) to sharpen your process and the experiences you ship.

  • Embedding Systems Thinking: Bring masterful understanding of design system principles, native UI patterns, and the current state of design in the industry. Apply and evolve the design system with a level of rigour that sets the standard for the squad. Ensure consistency and quality across platforms, especially the fast-moving, constraint-heavy environment of POS on iOS.

  • Driving User-Centricity: Get into venues. Watch services. Talk to operators. Draw insights from qualitative and quantitative research, and know how to turn those insights into tangible product decisions. Build strong relationships with cross-functional partners and advocate for the user when priorities compete.

  • Collaboration and mentorship: Be the critique partner for the PDII on the squad. Raise the quality bar through proximity: not through direction, but through how you think and how you give feedback. Drive consensus when PM, engineering, and design diverge. Be a positive role model and culture carrier within the studio, and an advocate for design across the broader Lightspeed organisation.

  • Forward thinking: Contribute to the long-term POS product vision by identifying opportunities for re-invention that inspire and inform new modes of restaurant operations.

What you'll bring

  • At least 5 years of practical, in-house product, UX/UI design experience.

  • Mastery in at least one area (interaction design, systems thinking, native platform craft, or research integration) with a track record of raising the bar around you.

  • Solid experience designing native iOS (or comparable native mobile) applications.
You understand platform conventions, navigation paradigms, gesture and touch patterns, and the constraints of designing for a device that lives in someone's hand during a busy shift.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive consensus when stakeholders disagree. You know how to hold a design direction and bring others along without bulldozing.

  • Excellent communication skills. You can bring internal stakeholders on your design journey and explain decisions with focus and brevity. Effective across one-on-ones, working groups, and mixed-seniority rooms.

  • Solid visual design skills and attention to detail, with a drive to continuously refine craft.

  • A curiosity to continuously evolve your design process by leveraging AI tools to deliver better, more user-centred products.

  • An acute level of self-awareness and deep empathy for both the customer and your team's goals.

  • A deep curiosity and ability to consider product strategy and vision. You don't just care about "how it looks" or "what we should design," but "why are we designing this at all?"

  • Experience with an arsenal of tools such as Figma, Google Suite, JIRA, and other prototyping tools.

  • Fluency in written and spoken English for effective global collaboration, with spoken German skills considered a plus.

Nice to have

  • Genuine curiosity about — or direct experience with — hospitality service workflows.
Whether you've worked in a restaurant, designed for one, or just love understanding how a great service comes together, you're energised by the operational reality of the industry.

  • Experience mentoring more junior designers, formally or informally.
