Festive Flavours from the UK Lightspeed Family

Festive Flavours from the UK Lightspeed Family

‘Tis the season to ‘eat, drink and be merry’, and here in the UK we take our Christmas slogans, much like our Christmas knitwear, very seriously. Here’s a roundup of some of our favourite festive offerings from our beloved clients this year, guaranteed to make any stomach rumble!

Rub Smokehouse

Our friends at Rub Smokehouse have won the hearts (and stomachs) of loyal customers in Birmingham, Newcastle and Nottingham with their che15306079_1054204521375000_5017985496517705728_neky take on classic American barbecue dishes, serving up a veritable banquet with every order. A firm front-runner over the festive period is the ‘Dog in a Blanket’, an oversized 50 cm hotdog wrapped in bacon and slow-cooked turkey, served with extra ‘pigs in blankets’ (chipolata sausages wrapped in bacon, a Christmas staple!), sage stuffing and cranberry poutine. If this wasn’t enough to knock you out for winter,  try the ‘Christmas Brownie Heaven Sundae’, a homemade brownie piled high with whipped cream and lashings of gooey chocolate sauce. Wash it all down with the ‘Don’t Eat Yellow Snow’, a delicious prosecco cocktail served on crushed ice (see what they did there?). A perfect end to an epic festive feast; after all, it’s ok to be ‘elfish!

The Shepherd & Dog

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Christmas? For many a Brit, it’s throwing on their favourite Christmas jumper and heading down to the local pub to share a moment with friends and family. Nestled in the hills of Sussex, The Shepherd & Dog is the quintessential English pub that  serves high quality, locally sourced food and drinks to their clients. Set your taste buds tingling with a poached egg set in a silky smooth pea and ham soup with artisan bread and homemade butter, before bracing yourself for the main event. A winner for many and an all-round Christmas classic, is the roasted English turkey stuffed with confit, duck leg and guinea fowl thigh. Everything wrapped in pancetta, with dripping roast potato fondant, cranberry stuffing, bacon lardons and the all important accompaniment, brussel sprouts. Santa himself would be proud! Finally, with a traditional Christmas pudding served with brandy sauce, redcurrants and vanilla bean ice cream, you’ll be well on your way to a very ‘merry’ Christmas, particularly if the Honey Mead has tempted you in the process!

For those of you looking for something more refined for this time of year, Gazette offers a ‘French Touch’ that gives any meal a little sparkle and sophistication. With three restaurants in London, Gazette brings the wonders of French cuisine across the Channel, and their festive menu is no exception. Start the evening with a mouth-watering foie gras and smoked duck terrine topped with pear chutney. Then, savour a black truffle risotto and unctuous chocolate fondant served with pistachio ice cream. To add that little note of ‘je ne sais quoi’ to the holidays, enjoy a glass of wine produced exclusively for their restaurants in the prestigious appellation of Provence.

Christmas isn’t just about being grateful for what we have, but also for discoverinativeng new things. There are fewer better ways to try a new experience than a trip to Native in London’s eclectic Covent Garden. This innovative restaurant uses only foraged food and game in its menu, highlighting the flavours that are right on our doorstep. To start, indulge in Brixham crab with a Braddock white duck egg and foraged sea greens, followed by a roast loin of wild South Downs venison, wilted sprout tops, black pudding stovie and English truffle. Finish with a delightful baked Brogdale apple stuffed with quince mince meat, served with honeycomb and cider brandy ice-cream. Who knew the British Isles could offer such a smorgasbord of wild and festive flavours?

Whatever you’re looking for this holiday season, Lightspeed’s clients cater for all tastes, and are sure to leave you content, thankful and a little larger around the waistline!
